Comments (0) Add to My Stories Women have long recognised that groomed eyebrows can transform a face - but now the male 'monobrow', as sported by Noel Gallagher and Alistair Darling, looks to be a thing of the past as well.
Debenhams has revealed that men now make up 40 per cent of visitors at its brow bars - a figure that has doubled in the past year.
Research into male clients at the in-store salons showed that initial visits were prompted by a bid to smarten up for job interviews or pressure from a fiancée before their wedding.
The rise of the 'guybrow': Jude Law and David Beckham are among the most requested celebrity looks for men at Debenhams' eyebrow-shaping salons
Beauty therapists at the department store chain have told how demand is now so great, they are planning men-only 'guybrow' nights.
The sessions will explain the ancient art of threading, which is used to shape the brows, with therapists on hand to advise on colour and shape.
Debenhams' director of cosmetic merchandising, Sara Stern, said: 'As with self-tanning and facials, the taboo around eyebrow shaping is quickly disappearing.
'Men are recognising the power of a groomed brow to frame the face and create a sexy James Bond-style arch when raised.
'The monobrow, famously displayed by Noel Gallagher will soon be ancient history as alpha males look to cultivate dark, strong brows with the help of threading and dying.
Getting it wrong: Noel Gallagher's brows are considered too bushy, while Sylvester Stallone's over-plucked look is a serious no-no
'The over-plucked feminine look favoured by Sylvester Stallone however is a serious no-no. A quick tidy-up in the style of Jude Law is all that is needed.'
The treatment is not for the faint-hearted however: 'Guybrow-shaping virgins should remember that threading can smart to begin with, especially as male eyebrows tend to be thicker than female brows,' added Ms Stern. 'However, the treatment is speedy and efficient, leaving you with a brow to wow.'
